Safety training

Control of Hazardous Energies Standard / V5 10032026

17) The participants can explain what a Qualified Electrical Person should do in a range of given situations to fulfil the requirements of the role safely and effectively, including their responsibilities for other persons (Knowledge, intermediate level)

The instructor shall:

Lead a brainstorm with the participants about the Qualified Electrical Person role and requirements in the wind industry to give an overview of

a. training requirements

b. experience requirements

c. responsibilities (limitations to what they can, and cannot, do)

d. high voltage requirements

Emphasise that GWO CoHE Electrical Safety Initial Training will NOT qualify or enable participants to perform work on High Voltage (HV) systems. HV work is beyond the scope of the GWO CoHE Training Standard and has additional requirements such as GWO HV Operations training, HV work experience and training in company specific HV rules

Show examples of what a Qualified Electrical Person can do and cannot do

Facilitate an exercise with examples of different situations or branching scenarios in a WTG environment where the participants must practise deciding what a Qualified Electrical Person should do in the given situation: a. e.g. establishing an electrically safe working condition for others to work within or giving guidance to an Ordinary Person. (refer to CoHE Roles and Responsibilities in Section 2 for more examples)

b. what can a Qualified Electrical Person do compared to an Ordinary Person in these situations?

c. what are the reasons for these role boundaries?

d. how is the safety of any other potentially affected persons in the work area ensured?

Give constructive feedback to the participants decisions about what a Qualified Electrical Person should do in the situation or branching scenarios and explain the reasons why the actions/answers were correct, or incorrect, and show the realistic consequences of a correct, or incorrect, action/answer to each situation to provide the participants with a sense of the real world consequences
