Our brilliant 5-day tour of the East of England includes the university city, Cambridge and market town of Saffron Walden. We marvel at the region’s finest mansion, Audley End. We also visit the Imperial War Museum Duxford.
Our new tour, based in Huntingdon, means we are within easy reach of the area’s most famous historical attractions from Oliver Cromwell’s house to Burghley House & Gardens, as well as Bletchley Park, made famous during WWII for cracking Germany’s Enigma code!

Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Ely & Oliver Cromwell’s House
Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Imperial War Museum Duxford
This morning, we have free time in the delightful cathedral city of Ely. We can take a circular walk to discover Ely’s heritage including its magnificent Norman cathedral with a unique octagon tower and Ely Museum. This afternoon we visit Oliver Cromwell’s House . Here we learn more abut the life of this fascinating historic figure and the part he played in the English Civil War. Day 3 Stamford & Burghley House & Gardens This morning, we spend the morning exploring Stamford, one of the finest stone towns in England used for numerous film and TV backdrops. We can explore the market town’s pretty streets, with time for lunch. This afternoon, we head to Burghley House & Gardens , a breathtaking Elizabethan stately home built by William Cecil in honour of Queen Elizabeth I. Discover the magnificent stately homes surrounded by historic parkland and designed by famous horticultural designer, Capability Brown. Day 4 Bletchley Park Today, we visit Bletchley Park to discover the incredible achievements of Britain’s WWII codebreakers at this country house & estate. It was here that Alan Turing and his colleagues helped crack Germany’s Enigma Code. Visit the Codebreaking Huts & Blocks, Alan Turing’s office, the Library, wartime garages & explore interactive exhibitions. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. INCLUSIONS
This morning, we visit the Imperial War Museum Duxford , Britain’s best-preserved World War II airfield. The museum incorporates numerous exhibitions, including the historic Operations Block, the nerve centre of Duxford’s Battle of Britain campaign; AirSpace, home to 30 iconic aircraft like the Spitfire and Concorde; the American Air Museum featuring Europe’s biggest collection of US military aircraft, and Historic Duxford, which recalls wartime flying aces such as Douglas Bader. Day 3 Saffron Walden & Audley End House This morning, we travel to the pretty medieval market town of Saffron Walden with free time to explore. Made prosperous in the 1500s for growing the prized spice of saffron, the town still retains beautiful historic buildings. This afternoon we visit one of England’s most spectacular mansion houses and gardens, Audley End . Enjoy exploring its impressive great hall, state apartments, Gothic-style chapel and ‘below stairs’ service wing before strolling around the magnificent gardens designed by Capability Brown. Day 4 Cambridge at Leisure Today, we visit the world-famous university city of Cambridge with time to explore. Take a walking tour and see the instantly recognisable King’s College Chapel or relax with a guided punt on the River Cam. Many precious antiquities are on show at the Fitzwilliam Museum or green-fingered visitors might like a trip to the Botanic Gardens. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
