Southport Gardens & Halls Based in the heart of the much-loved seaside town of Southport, we have plenty of ‘my time’ for the most leisurely, relaxing break with easy access to all its wonderful attractions. Stroll through the King’s Gardens and browse the historic shops of Lord Street or hop on a bus to visit the Botanic Gardens. We’ll also delve into the county’s history with a visit to two amazing Tudor stately homes and delightful gardens.

Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner. Day 2 Southport
Day 4 Speke Hall & Ormskirk This morning we visit Speke Hall, Garden & Estate . Explore the gardens and estate before enjoying a bite to eat in the home farm restaurant (not included) before the hall opens after lunch. After some time exploring the hall, we make our way to the historic market town of Ormskirk. Learn more about the town’s 800-year history with a visit to the 12th Century Ormskirk Parish Church. Named St Peter and St Paul, the church is one of only three churches in the country to have both a steeple and a spire. Another historic landmark in the town centre is Ormskirk’s grade-II listed Gothic style Clock Tower built in 1876. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
Today we have the day at leisure in Southport. With so much to see within walking distance of the hotel, enjoy a stroll around the King’s Gardens with its restored Victorian shelters, ornate Venetian bridge, boating lake, model village, crazy golf, as well as community gardens. Close by is Lord Street, the main shopping street with historic buildings and independent shops. Or hop on the bus to visit the Botanic Gardens, home to 20 acres of Victorian styled gardens, an aviary and café. Early afternoon, we return to our hotel and indulge in delicious afternoon tea. Day 3 Rufford Old Hall & Liverpool or Southport This morning, we visit the grade I listed Rufford Old Hall. We will have time to explore the Tudor Great Hall, marvel at its hammerbeam roof, and wander through Jacobean and Gothic wings. Stroll Victorian gardens, browse the second-hand bookshop, and enjoy refreshments in the Victorian tea-room. We then have the option to return to Southport or perhaps enjoy a visit to Liverpool for the afternoon. See page 159 for more information.
