We enjoy visits to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, stunning Castle Howard and can uncover York’s Roman and Viking legacies both on foot and by water; great Yorkshire riches await!
Famed for its innovation in transport and the birthplace of train travel, the county of Yorkshire is a treasure trove of museums and fantastic experiences focusing on heritage rail, aviation and canals. Our thrilling new tour will take you on a voyage of discovery as well as spending time in the county’s charming market towns and ancient city of York. PACKAGED ITINERARY (BASED ON SUNDAY ARRIVAL)

Day 1 Arrival We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Yorkshire Air Museum & York City Cruise (Day 4 for Monday arrivals) This morning, we make our way to the fascinating Yorkshire Air Museum , the UK’s largest independent aviation museum. We then travel to the magnificent city of York, where we could begin our visit with a scenic sightseeing cruise or perhaps then allow the remainder of the day at leisure to explore the ancient city. You can stroll ‘the Shambles’, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in the world, explore the magnificent Minster, or with free admission, why not visit the York National Railway Museum which tells the story of 300 years of railway history. Day 3 North Yorkshire Moors Railway & Malton (Day 2 for Monday arrivals) This morning, we make our way to Pickering to embark on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway , for a scenic 1hr 45-minute journey to Whitby . Arriving at lunch time in Whitby, we have free time to explore the bustling fishing port. With plenty to do and see, you can visit the Captain Cook attractions or stroll along the waterfront for souvenirs and delicious fish and chips. See the dramatic abbey ruins, the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. As we travel back west, we have a short stop in Malton, known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital, where artisan producers and independent shops sell unique gifts and delicious food and drinks. Day 4 Skipton & Keighley and Worth Valley Railway (Day 3 for Monday arrivals) This morning, we make our way to Skipton, we have time at leisure to explore the market, before mid-morning embarking on a leisurely 2 hour return cruise along the beautiful Leeds-Liverpool Canal, complete with commentary and cream tea on board. We then make our way to Haworth, where we board the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway to enjoy a short one-way journey through Brontë country to Keighley. Afterwards, we make our way through the Yorkshire Dales and return to our hotel in Harrogate with time to freshen up before dinner. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home. We begin our day at the RHS Garden Harlow Carr where we have a guided tour of the garden. We have free time to explore the gardens at leisure and perhaps enjoy a seasonal treat in the Harrogate Arms Café or Betty Café Tea Rooms. We have the remaining afternoon at our disposal in the lovely Victorian spa town of Harrogate. We may wish to visit the grade II listed Royal Pump Room Museum, which explores Harrogate’s spa history, browse the various independent and well- known shops, sip a cuppa in the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms, or even pamper ourselves with a visit to the luxurious Turkish Baths. Day 3 Castle Howard Today we visit the incomparable Castle Howard. One of England’s finest historic houses and the setting for the TV production of Brideshead Revisited, Castle Howard is more like a palace. This opulent country house is situated within idyllic sweeping parkland dotted with statues, temples, lakes and formal gardens. Day 4 York & City Cruise We spend today in the timbered city of York, beginning with a fantastic York City Cruise . We sit back and relax, taking in the sights of the city and hearing entertaining and informative commentary as we sail the River Ouse. The rest of the day is free in York. An ancient and compact walled city, York can be explored on foot. We can stroll ‘The Shambles’, one of the best-preserved medieval streets in the world, whilst the magnificent Minster is well worth a visit along with the state-of-the-art Undercroft Museum, located in chambers underneath the cathedral. There’s also the National Railway Museum, showcasing over 300 years of railway history, and the JORVIK Viking Centre, which delves into the sights and sounds of Viking York. Day 5 Departure After breakfast, we make our way home.
