The Greyton Post March/April 2026

M y dears, if ever there were a reminder that we live at the lively edge of nature’s moods, this season has provided it in full measure. One moment the wind howls like an uninvited guest rattling the windows pushing fires down the mountains, the next a sudden downpour arrives with such enthusiasm that a few homes found themselves briefly hosting indoor waterways. One does wonder what next is waiting in the wings, a plague of locusts perhaps but then again, uncertainty has always been part of Grey- ton’s peculiar charm. Into this elemental theatre rolls the ABSA Cape Epic, bringing with it thousands of riders, supporters, crew, cameras and curious souls, all passing through our gorgeous village. For a few days, Greyton becomes a glittering dot on the world stage. Let us hope - and trust - that we shine brightly. A gentle reminder, dear locals: if you spot someone wandering about with that familiar “Google Maps has betrayed me” expression, do stop and help. A kindly word, a pointed finger

Additional funds raised by our tall Dutch friend (you know who you are), have helped GVF acquire a further Unimog - a baby brother to the monster big brother already stationed here. Smaller perhaps, but what a machine! Built to climb paths and reach places others can- not, it stands ready to fight fires and keep us all safe. It is comforting to know that when wind and flame conspire, our volun - teers are so well equipped - and so deeply supported by the community they serve. And now, a word on us. Greyton, in all its creativity and quirkiness, is a village of wonderfully odd, outspoken, gen- tle, stubborn, inspired humans. Let us continue to be kind to our neighbours - however unusual they may be. Allow free speech, yes, though perhaps we might all mind the volume of that freedom when it travels along the Whatsapp airwaves by enthusiastic speakers. We are, after all, a family - not the school playground (and yes, you know exactly what I mean). Until next time, my dears - stay curious, stay kind, and keep your dancing shoes close at hand.

in the right direction, or perhaps guidance to the nearest watering hole can make all the difference. Hospitality, after all, is what we do well! Speaking of water- ing holes and high spirits, what an absolute delight the Fiore disco fund- raiser turned out to be - well done or- ganising team. Twirling on the dance floor to DJ Gus’s infectious tunes, substantial essential funds were for our beloved Greyton Volunteer Firefighters, and my goodness, didn’t we raise the roof as well. It was joy with purpose - sequins, smiles and community spirit all in one glorious swirl.

So let us keep meeting and greeting old friends and new residents alike. Let us dance when there is music, help when there is need, laugh when things go slightly wrong, and remember that community is not built in the calm, but in how we show up for one another when the wind blows, the fire burns, the rain falls, or the world comes rolling through our streets.
