ELEMENT 5.7 - “C”: CIRCULATION
Learning objectives:
46) The participants can apply techniques to assess circulation (e.g., pulse oximeter for heart rate monitoring) (Skills, intermediate level)
47) The participants can perform correct first aid for external and internal bleeding (Skills, intermediate level)
48) The participants can perform correct first aid for shock (Skills, intermediate level)
49) The participants can identify and assess signs and symptoms of serious and minor injuries and illness, including those that are time critical (Knowledge, advanced level)
50) The participants can perform enhanced first aid for acute illness and injury, including those that are time (Skills, intermediate level)
The “C” A-B-C-D-E primary and secondary approach should be used throughout.

The instructor shall:
Explain and demonstrate (while seeking the participants’ understanding throughout:
a.
circulation - assessment techniques
a.i
skin colour and temperature
a.ii capillary refilling time.
a.iii pulse
b. correct use and interpretation of a pulse oximeter (SPO2/heart rate)
c.
external bleeding
d.
types (arterial, venous, capillary)
e.
treatment
Use of appropriate first aid equipment where applicable
