Enhancements in Professional Education In 2021, The UWI enhanced its CPE programmes to align with top universities and the CARICOM Qualifications Framework (CQF), adopting CEUs for non-credit programmes while maintaining a credit system for pre-university programmes. This framework is presented within the context of international best practice as outlined by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET) as well as within the levels presented in the CQF.

Community Outreach and Continuing Education

Since its establishment in 1948, The UWI has sought to provide outreach services to the Caribbean community through an extramural department, which evolved into the School of Continuing Studies (SCS) to address local needs for knowledge and skills. Today, among its Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) offerings are short, skills-based courses for professionals and lifelong learners, allowing them to earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or professional development hours, although these do not count towards a degree.
