(30) T his is He of whom I said, A fter me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for He was before me. (31) And I knew Him not: b ut th a t He should be made m anifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing w ith w ater. (32) And John bare record, saying, I saw th e Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. (33) And I knew H im not: but he th a t sent me to baptize w ith w ater, the sam e said unto 8 » .Upon whom thou shalt see the sp irit dcsecnding’, and rem aining on .***> sam e is he which baptizeth W1*h the Holy Ghost. (34) And I saw, and bare record th a t this is the Son of God. H orton pie; th e first sermon; th e first evangelistic tour, and th e first convert— in Samaria. The first things in Scripture are al ways significant; study them . John th e B aptist h a d preached a searching message denouncing sin and dealing death blows to th e crimes of the people and of th e Pharisees. He pub- walked, he saith, Behold th e Lamb of God: (37) And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. (38) Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them , W hat seek ye? they said unto Him, Rabbi, which is to say, being interpreted, Master, where dwellest thou? (39) He saith unto them , Come, and see. They cam e and saw where he dwelt, and abode w ith him th a t day: for it was about the ten th hour. (40) One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, w as Andrew, Simon P e ter’s brother. (41) He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. (42) And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou a rt Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by in te rp re tation, A stone. licly rebuked Herod. He was impris oned and died about a year after. The unsettled conditions in Judea moved our Lord to go to Galilee, and here He made Capernaum His h eadquarters.
