Getting a no isn’t about being rejected. You have to know that a no is just a not right now . And that’s okay. Give people time when they say no to you. For me, it was a timing thing. I didn’t understand. I thought Melaleuca was a soap company from the ’80s. It wasn’t until I saw a full Melaleuca Overview that I understood. So you have to be okay with being told no , and you have to be okay if someone doesn’t join your team. Wouldn’t you be happy if someone found Melaleuca, even if it wasn’t through you? Melaleuca is an abundance-minded company. As leaders, we have to honor that because there truly is enough for everybody. But you have to teach your team these concepts, because it could take someone out of the game if they don’t know that up front. That’s why I tell my team, “I’ve heard thousands of noes . People are going to say no to you. And it’s okay because you’re going to be in the No Club with me. So let’s go, sister! We’re not going to get stuck!”
life know what I’m doing. Many of them shop with me, others are watching, and I’m just waiting. I’m just waiting for them to be ready. If they ever want to make a life change, the door is open—no pressure. But they are clear on the vision and purpose of Melaleuca because I have told them and have reached out. Teach your team that everybody knows successful people. Reaching out to them is nothing to be afraid of. You’re just having a conversation with a person you admire and respect. It could sound something like this: “Hey, I really respect you. You’re someone I really look up to. I know you’re super successful at what you do. And I know you’re really busy, but I would love to just jump on a call with you for 15 to 20 minutes and share what I’ve been doing the last few years. I just feel like you need to know about it. It may or may not be for you, and that’s all good. But I have to share with you what I’m doing.” Join the “ No Club” If you’re going to be a leader, you have to join the No Club. You also have to tell your team that they’ll want to be in the club and that it’s not a scary place to be. The difference between a leader and a newbie is that the leader has heard a lot more noes . I’ve got to be honest with you: I said no to Melaleuca for a long time—more than 10 years. A friend reached out to me one day and said, “You could do so well in Melaleuca.” I told her, “Look, I know it took courage to call. I’m so grateful. I’m really honored, but I will never do anything with Melaleuca. Please take me off your list.” Those words came out of my mouth. And then I was eating my words because six weeks later I called my friend and said, “I think I’m ready to learn about Melaleuca.”
and we’re working from home, so we have to make our home environment a professional arena. This lays the groundwork for success before you write a single name down on your contact list. Appointments Are Everything You can’t wing your way to success. Professionals book appointments; amateurs talk about them. If you’re a realtor, a doctor, a dental hygienist, or any other professional, you book appointments. But for some reason, we get into a home-based business and we think that appointments don’t matter and that we’re just going to wing it. You have to start asking appointment- setting questions. “When do you have 20 minutes?” “When can you come over for an in-home discussion?” Your team will struggle the most with setting appointments, so you have to lead by example. I tell my team,
Run Your Business Like a Professional
I like to ask my team, “If you were going to be shadowed by your mentors for the day, how would you change what you are doing?” Then I encourage them to make those changes! We get the honor and privilege of working from home. Most of the time, I’m in sweatpants and my hair is on a top knot, but I function in a professional manner. It’s about how you show up every day. Will you run your day, or will your day run you? That’s a decision you have to make the moment your eyes open. How you start your day bleeds into the rest of your day. So if you start your day in chaos, it’s going to trickle into your business. Every morning, my team sends me screenshots of their made beds. It seems silly, but we’re professionals,
