In the creation of this book, a heartfelt tale of Annie Oakley, the Little Black Labrador, and her myriad of adventures, I have been blessed with a constellation of support, inspiration, and camaraderie. It is with profound gratitude that I extend my thanks to all who have been a part of this journey.

Firstly, to Annie herself, whose boundless energy, insatiable curiosity, and unconditional love have been the lifeblood of these stories. Your spirit and zest for life have not only filled these pages but have also enriched our lives immeasurably.

To the myriad of friends, both human and animal, who have accompanied Annie on her adventures across the diverse landscapes of Australia—each of you has contributed a unique thread to the rich tapestry of her story. Your companionship, challenges, and shared moments of joy have been instrumental in shaping the narrative of a little black Labrador learning about the world.

I am especially thankful to the pet owners, dog walkers, and animal lovers who have shared their tales and encounters with Annie. Your anecdotes and observations have been invaluable, providing depth and authenticity to the world through which Annie trots, sniffs, and bounds.

To the veterinarians, and animal caregivers who have ensured Annie's wellbeing on her travels, your dedication to the health and happiness of animals shines brightly as a beacon of hope and love. Your expertise has not only kept Annie safe but has also taught us the importance of responsibility, care, and respect for all living beings.

A special note of appreciation goes to the artists and illustrators whose talents have brought Annie's adventures to vivid life. Your ability to capture the essence of joy, curiosity, and friendship in your art has made this book a visual feast for readers of all ages.

To my family and friends, who have supported this endeavour with patience, encouragement, and endless cups of tea—your belief in this project has been a source of strength and motivation. Your feedback, laughter, and shared excitement have been the wind beneath Annie's wings.

And finally, to the readers, both young and old, who have opened their hearts to Annie Oakley, the Little Black Labrador. May her stories inspire you to explore, to cherish friendships, and to always approach life with a wagging tail and an eager heart.

Thank you, one and all, for being part of this remarkable journey.

3

In a land where the eucalypts grow, near the waves of the sea’s gentle flow,

4

.

Lived Aysha, a girl, just six years old, with spirits adventurous and bold

5

Beside her, a black lab named Annie, whose tail wagged as good as any,

6

Together, a duo, eager and spry, under the wide, endless sky.

7

One sunny and bright morning, they chose to seek where Kara, the Koala, dozes.

8

“She’s missing!” cried Aysha with a frown. “We must find her before the sun’s down!”

9

So off went the pair with a bound and leap, into the bush, wild and deep.

10

Not far along their rugged track, they met Lenny the Lizard, laid back.

11

“Kara?” he mused with a thoughtful eye, “She climbed up the hill, quite high!”

12

With a nod and a smile, they left in a while, moving along in their quest,

13

Each paw and each foot, not a sound did they boot, in the quiet of the forest’s rest.

14

Next, they encountered a kangaroo, Kenny, who was bouncing through.

15

“Kara the Koala?” he scratched his head, “I think she’s near the creek bed.”

16

.

With a bound and a skip, Kenny led the trip, then waved with a hop and a leap

17

“Our journey’s a thrill,” laughed Aysha, until they parted with a goodbye peep.

18

Further they trekked, the sun overhead, when a strange noise filled them with dread.

19

A cough and a sputter from behind a bush, followed by a rather rude tush!

20

It was Wally the Wombat, quite stout, who blushed as his fart came out.

21

“Oh dear,” he sighed with a grin, “That’s just my way to chime in!

22

Kara was here, eating some leaves,”— and here he paused as he believes—

23

“She burped out loud, said, ‘Piggie me!’ Then she napped by the tall gum trees.”

24

Thanking Wally, they went on their way, through ferns where the shadows play.

25

Up in a tree, as peaceful as could be, was Kara, with no fear.

Each clue they found, they followed sound, until a soft snore they did hear.

26

Up in a tree, as peaceful as could be, was Kara, with no fear.

27

“Kara!” cried Aysha, her voice a delighted ring, while Annie barked, her collar giving a swing.

28

The yawned and opened an eye, looking down from her perch so high. “Thank you for finding me,” Kara cooed, in a voice so soft and subdued.

29

We missed you!” Aysha said, “The forest wasn’t the same.” Kara smiled, “Let’s all play a game.”

30

So together they stayed till the end of the day, in the shade of the trees they lay.

31

With friends old and new, under skies so blue, they shared stories, laughed and played.

32

And as stars lit the night with their glow, Aysha and Annie knew they’d always know,

33

In the heart of the wild, with every mile, friendship was the greatest treasure to show.
