Note: Begin the (optional) stock portfolio game/competition with this lesson. There are a few fun and grade level appropriate online stock market game sites for students. Many allow for team portfolio competition. All sites require players to register. Review the following stock market game/educational sites and select the one that best suits your students’ needs. Consider placing students into investment teams and making the project a competitive activity. This is an ideal learning experience for students. Dedicate some in-class time to introducing the activity and reviewing the website. Encourage students to download financial news and stock market apps on their phones so they can monitor their portfolios prospective investments and economic news. • The Stock Market Game (www.stockmarketgame.org/expstudent.html) Suitable for all ages. Users are given $100,000 fantasy cash to invest over a given period. Teachers may register 1 to 5 students per team. • How the Stock Market Works (www.howthemarketworks.com) Users receive a fantasy brokerage account with $25,000. Teachers can create a private competition for their class, set contest dates and schedules. Appropriate for elementary, middle school, high school, and college students. Includes an education center with hundreds of articles, videos, and tutorials. • Virtual Stock Market Game (virtualstockmarket.tdbank.com) This game starts each player with $100,000 of fantasy money to trade any of the 25,000 listed stocks.
