Gaining Attention In the last lesson, students learned that there are many aspects to financial literacy. This course focuses on global commerce, business, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The pursuit of wealth and prosperity is universal and expressed through these activities. Global commerce is huge. It is a worldwide system of businesses, governments, government agencies, and organizations that interact to enable businesses to operate, and goods, money, and services to flow between nations. The consumer is an essential component of commerce and the last stop for a product or service. Engage students in a discussion: In the last lesson’s Ponder and Predict, you were asked to consider what commerce was like before businesses, governments, money, or countries existed? Did commerce even exist? Communicating Objectives By the conclusion of this lesson, you will be able to explain how modern commerce is fundamentally similar to barter and how barter impedes the growth of commerce. You will assess your knowledge of negotiation skills and strategies, and identify your personality strengths and weaknesses with a Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
