G8, G7, G20, Gee Whiz! The G stands for “Group” ; the number refers to the number of member nations .
The G8 is a forum for the world's major industrialized, democratically-minded countries . Once a year, the presidents and prime ministers of these nations get together to discuss issues of mutual, global concern in the hopes of reaching a consensus on solving problems. It is a chance for the eight most powerful people in the world to get together in a small, informal, and private setting to talk freely about the world’s problems.
