N ea r er the Cross By J. Harold Gwynne
The pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, Lakewood, Ohio, is the author of these deeply devotional messages on the progress of the Saviour to the culminating scene of redemption — the cross. The texts are all taken from the last three months of Jesus’ ministry. Each of these sermons is prefaced by one of the great hymns on the cross. 150 pages; cloth; Van tage Press, New York; $2.75. Nothing will be found here by way of help in the technical processes of dummy typing, stencil cutting and duplicating. The book is rather a col lection of squibs, sentences, para graphs and poetry for various seasons, together with orders of service. The ologically, the material has been drawn impartially from conservative, liberal and even Unitarian sources. 128 pages; cloth; Fleming H. Revell Co., Westwood, N.J.; $2.00. The first Annual Lectures on Reviv al and Evangelism were delivered at Tennessee Temple Schools, Chat tanooga, Terni., in 1954. These 10 lectures will richly repay the reader. Considerable research went into their preparation. Every aspect of revival is discussed in these pages — its na ture, need, obstacles and fruits. 167 pages; cloth; Sword of the Lord Pub lishers, Wheaton, 111.; $2.00. A member of the teaching staff of Melbourne Bible Institute, Australia, the author spent considerable time in Palestine in preparation for the writ ing of this volume, an introduction to the historical geography of the Holy Land. Mr. Kitchin often refers to his indebtedness to George Adam Smith’s Historical Geography of the Holy Land, the standard work in the field. The reader will be captivated by the style and matter of the book, and the maps are most useful. Sun day school teachers, and many pas- V e tte r Church Bu lletins By Stella O.
