Knowledge and Qualifications • Be professionally qualified in health and safety, holding a Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent • To have a thorough and demonstrable working knowledge of theprinciples of Health and Safety with evidence of CPD. • A first degree or post-graduate qualification in health and safety,occupational health or related discipline or equivalent. • A thorough knowledge of health and safety legislation and itsapplicability in an organisational context. Skills & Competencies Essential: • Demonstrable experience of working as a Health and/or SafetyManager in complex organisations, including some experience in the public sector. • Line management experience, including that of specialists. • High level skills in numerical and verbal reasoning. • High level of influencing skills • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing, withthe ability to communicate appropriately across all organisational levels. • Experience in working with computer-based health and safetysystems and a high level of computer literacy. • Experience of managing the process and production of papersfor a Health and Safety Committee. Desirable: • Experience of health and safety management in Higher Education. General Line Management Responsibilities To manage the University’s Health and Safety function, including managing anddeveloping the Health and Safety Adviser, planning and managing the function’s budget, and representing the function at meetings for the Directorate Leadership Team.
