Academic roles Teaching at WBS
Teaching at WBS We’re strongly committed to teaching excellence and continually enhance our teaching provision with the aim of providing a transformative learning experience for our students. Each academic group has a teaching and learning lead - a member of faculty who champions teaching and drives forward initiatives locally. At WBS, faculty who teach are supported by a range of specialist professional services teams, including: ■ A designated Teaching and Learning Consultant who will work with you and advise on learning design, assessment and feedback best practice, module material development, and in-class and online teaching initiatives ■ You’ll have access to a suite of education technologies, as well as an in-house media team that can support the creation of high-quality digital content. These include green rooms, live rooms, a podcast recording suite and our immersive extended reality space, SmartStage ■ Our Programme Teams will provide you with end-to-end administrative support, including liaison with External Examiners, assistance in the development of new modules and courses, and co-ordinating course timetables, as well as directly supporting the student experience through a suite of co-curricular activities and student support initiatives.
Opportunities for ongoing development are routinely offered to enhance knowledge of new pedagogic approaches and developments in teaching and learning. These include: ■ A suite of developmental opportunities, customised to your needs. Past workshops have included: presence and impact in the classroom; designing assessments and providing feedback; narrative, structure and storytelling techniques for teaching; and integrating sustainability into business education curriculum ■ An annual Teaching and Learning Symposium brings teaching faculty together and provides an opportunity to share teaching practices with colleagues, explore current developments and challenges in teaching, and gain practical takeaways. We strongly encourage all colleagues to develop their professional practice through fellowships with the Higher Education Academy, the development of case studies, the adoption of new technologies, and through access to University networks such as the Warwick International Higher Education Academy (WIHEA). All teaching-track staff are allocated workload credit to undertake Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), with further credit available to those who undertake innovative and more complex projects. SoTL aims include supporting faculty to access and engage with training, development, mentoring, and collaborative activities that advance their individual development and progression, build their professional identity, and enable them to progress and develop within WBS and Warwick. Teaching focused staff are allocated a Personal Research Allowance each year. This is equal in value to the allowance
