24. 1887 N172 Old Judge #86-6 Charles Comiskey (HOF) - PSA PR 1(MK)

One of the most popular players of his era and one of the most widely-collected 19th Century players today, Hall of Famer Buck Ewing is pictured here, posing as if about to throw a ball (inside a photography studio). Freshly graded PR 1 by PSA, the most visible condition flaws relate to the reverse, which exhibit some adhesive stains, overall soiling and what looks to be some remnants of clear tape. Clean, collector-grade example of Hall of Famer Charles Comiskey’s N172 Old Judge card #86-6. With an image more bold and clear than is typically seen with this issue, the card does exhibit some wear at the edges, including a few heavier but unobtrusive creases. A very small pencil mark on the reverse, which appears to be an upside- down number 4, is responsible for the qualifier assessed by PSA. A strong card despite the technical grade. Freshly- graded by PSA, the card is largely clean and sharp, with strong image clarity and legible typography. A small and light stain at the upper- left edge reduces the technical

Yet another example of how N172 Old Judge cards suffer by the standards of today’s third-party grading system, this attractive card of Hall of Famer Hugh Duffy boasts the eye appeal of a midgrade card. Boasting a clean image with better than average contrast, square corners and an overall clean surface, the reverse exhibits back damage related to adhesive from scrapbook mounting, as well as a bit of paper loss. That same scrapbook mounting likely preserved the card, reducing its exposure to light and elements
