A CURATED SELECTION OF GREAT CARDS
46. 1911 Zeenut PCL Buck Weaver - SGC PR 1
48. 1912 E300 Plow’s Candy Jack Barry - SGC EX 5
Years before being banned for his role in throwing the 1919 World Series, Buck Weaver played one season with the San Francisco Seals of the Pacific Coast League, accumulating a .282 batting average with 9 home runs in 674 at bats. The card remains tremendously desirable today due to its scarcity as well as due to the popularity of Black Sox players in general among today’s hobbyists. One of the most sought-after subjects involved with the scandal, Weaver’s PCL cards remain tremendously valuable and highly coveted - none more so than
Produced in 1912 and labeled as being from “Plow’s Candy Collection,” the E300 set is an enigma to collectors, with very little known about it. Collectors do immediately recognize the beauty of these cards, as well as their extreme rarity. Each 3” x 4” card features a sepia toned player photo, and a blank back. The set is rare enough that the checklist is considered incomplete, with new additions discovered every few years. SGC has graded just 45 examples, with PSA 136 more, a testament to the difficulty of finding cards from the issue. The cards are condition-sensitive, due to their larger format and thin card stock. Presented here is a beautiful, high-grade example featuring Athletics infielder Jack Barry. Well-centered and clean, light corner touches reduce the grade slightly but certainly do not detract from the card’s tremendous eye appeal. The E300 set is one of the most rare of all caramel issues, highly prized in any condition among advanced hobbyists. A higher-grade example featuring a popular player, a white whale for many type collectors.
his attractive 1911 Zeenut. Despite being a clear collector-grade example, the card presents well, it’s crisp photography and dynamic sepia coloring lending considerable eye appeal to the card despite its visible wear. The card carries significant collector demand, such that examples do not make themselves available for public sale very often.

49. 1915 Zeenut PCL Fred McMullin - SGC GD 2
Beautiful postcard of Olympian Jim Thorpe, one of the greatest of all American athletes, in his track and field uniform for the 1912 Olympics. In 1912, Thorpe competed in two Olympic events - the Pentathlon and the Decathlon. He won Gold Medals for both, and in addition to receiving the medals won two prizes which were donated by King Gustav of Sweden and Czar Nicholas II of Russia. When Thorpe was presented with his prize by King Gustav, Gustav told Thorpe “You, sir, are the greatest athlete in the world.” Thorpe famously responded
Outstanding 1915 Zeenut PCL card featuring third baseman Fred McMullen just four years prior to his involvement in the 1919 Black Sox scandal, where despite being a reserve player, he threatened to report his conspiring teammates unless he was included in the fix. McMullen was banned from organized baseball following the scandal, never speaking publicly about his involvement. While all Zeenut cards are highly sought-after, those featuring Black Sox players are especially so, sparking
“Thanks, King.” This tremendous example was graded EX-MT 6 by PSA, due to some very light corner touches, an otherwise tremendous appearance, with a clean image and sharp edges. The only example graded by PSA at this level, just two cards - both graded NM-MT - have been graded higher by the company. Simply an outstanding postcard, one of the finest known.
spirited bidding whenever they are offered. This example has been graded GOOD 2 by SGC, due to overall wear, with a visible moisture stain at the left edge and upper-left corner. Still, a very highly prized card, one of the keys to the issue.
