A CURATED SELECTION OF GREAT CARDS
54. 1950 Bowman #22 Jackie Robinson (HOF) - SGC EX 5
Presented in an SGC EX 5 holder, this second year Jackie Robinson card hails from the first of three consecutive sets featuring the bevy of well-executed illustrations provided to Bowman by the staff of the George Moll Advertising Agency, under the astute artistic direction of Charles Steinbacher. Based upon a well-known photograph of Robinson, the level of detail on this card is exceptional, with Ebbets Field’s details prominent in the background. This well-centered example has some light corner wear evident, mostly visible at the upper right. The surface remains smooth, with no signs of wear and the color contrast is off the charts. The image is bright, as are the borders, which remain white. Flipping the card over, some foxing along the edges, which this issue is subject to, can be seen and there is no sign of the “wax line” Bowman’s are also known for. The text is nice and legible, with the red highlights retaining good color and the famous Five Star logo looking sharp. A great looking card for the grade, offering a worthy canvas indeed for the Hall of Fame infielder.

55. 1954 Topps #201 Al Kaline (HOF RC) - PSA NM 7
Al Kaline remains possibly the most revered Tigers player to this day. An eighteen-time All Star, Mr. Tiger spent 22 glorious seasons in Detroit, amassing 3,007 hits and a World Series ring with their storied 1968 team. Kaline is pictured here on a pretty spectacular-looking Near Mint PSA 7 1954 Topps rookie card that is well-centered and been admirably maintained over the last seven decades, as a richly red background serves as the perfect canvas for the two images of the Tigers slugger. The corners are barely starting to tip and the overall look is immensely appealing. A well-rendered reverse rides along, in similarly fine shape; this is one not to miss.
MINIMUM BID: $750
56. 1955 Topps #164 Roberto Clemente (HOF RC) - SGC VG/EX+ 4.5
Roberto Clemente remains near the very apex of postwar ballplayers in the collective minds of baseball enthusiasts and collectors. His 1955 Topps rookie remains an object of desire in the hobby and this example offers a well-preserved image of the rifle-armed Pirates outfielder. This example has been graded VG/EX+ 4.5 by SGC, centered off to the bottom right as oriented, with light corner wear consistent with the grade. The color, especially the dark-to-light fade of green and the deep black, early Pirates batting helmet, is extremely rich and nicely contrasted. Very minor wear in one or two spots, dots really, can be seen. The reverse, well-centered and clean, looks fantastic, with well-rendered greens and reds.
