D-Tech Rotary Steerable Operations Manual

Operations Manual

Drill out of Casing Shoe: • Reduce flow to the D-Techs Minimum drill flow (see Appendix A), This will reduce piston pressure to a minimum but will allow the RST to function with minimal vibration. • While drilling cement and shoe track the RST should be in neutral steering mode. • Minimum bit RPM should be 40 RPM and kept as low as practically possible. • Monitor MWD shock & vibration. • Don’t increase parameters until last stabilizer of assembly is clear of the shoe. Appendix A: Suggested Minimum Flow Rate for Tool Sizes Tool Size Recommended Flow Rate 475 / 500 210gpm (795 lpm) 650 / 675 400gpm (1515 lpm) 800 / 900 670gpm (2535 lpm) Flow Range Operations The D-Tech RST has an optimum operating flow range. This range is determined during the pre-well planning phase before each RST deployment. The operating flow range is based upon a desired minimum and maximum flow range determined by the customer, the SPP limitations of the drilling rig, and the revolutions per gallon/litre of the mud motor. Operating at the lower end of the D-Tech recommended flow range will result in lower doglegs and RST yield. Operating at the upper end of the D-Tech recommended flow range will result in higher dog leg and RST yield.
