D-Tech Rotary Steerable Operations Manual

Operations Manual

Diagnostic Message – Currently not used, reserved for future functionality. Downlink Counter – The downlink counter value has a range of 0-7, the transmitted value will increase by 1 after every downlink is successfully received by the tool, the value will cycle back to 0 from 7. If the value increases when a downlink has not been sent from the surface, a false downlink has been taken by the RST, this should be rectified immediately by repeating the correct downlink. Last Downlink – The last downlink that the tool has received will be transmitted, and will be shown as the column, row, and mode of the downlink. This will need to be cross-referenced with the downlink matrix to identify the correct downlink, this will also indicate when a false downlink has been received and that the downlink should be repeated. The formation and content of the RST message will be determined and programmed into the MWD system prior to running the tools. This is done to provide real-time data that is considered relevant and pertinent to the challenges of the current drilling section, it is influenced by the number of MWD tools utilized. For example, if a resistivity tool is present this data may be more important and take precedence over measurements from other tools. The formation of the RST message will differ from run to run, and this should be discussed and prepared prior to tool deployment.
