NAS Oceana Air Show & STEM

NAS Oceana hosts the most widely attended air show on the East Coast, withup to275,000spectatorsannually! Ithasbeenawarded many accolades, including: • Recognized by the International Council of Air Shows as one of the best military air shows in North America. • Four-timewinnerofthe prestigiousDickSchramAwardforgroundbreaking community relations and collaboration. • Previously selected as the Air Showof the Year by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron. In 2020, due to the worldwide pandemic, the NAS Oceana Air Show partnered with Live Air Show TV and created an event like no other seen in the air show industry. For the first time, a Naval Air Station hosted a live broadcast air show that contained extensive military flying performances, tactical demonstrations, thrilling civilian aerobatic acts and live interviews, all interspersed with pre-recorded content focused on recruiting, Sailor profiles, military and base history, and telling the Naval Aviation story. To date, no other air show had successfully blended flying and pre- recorded content in such a way that created an end-to-end virtual air show experience. The 2020 live broadcast air show had 305K individual watches in all 50 states and 49 countries. Extensive local reach was accomplished by broadcasting on local media Facebook pages and VBTV. In 2022, the NAS Oceana Air Show hopes to return to its in-person format and looks forward to hosting the world famous Blue Angels along with naval flight enthusiasts from all over the world. THE SOUND OF FREEDOM – BACK FOR 2022!

The NAS Oceana Air Show has solidified a ground breaking partnership with the Virginia Beach City Public School System and the Chesapeake Public School Systemto create an "Outdoor STEM Laboratory" on an unprecedented scale. With over 8,000 fifth grade students from Virginia Beach and Chesapeake visiting in 2019, the NAS Oceana Air Show STEM Lab Learning

Day shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest educational field trip. The STEM Laboratory consists of hands-on, interactive displays by local businesses, museums, universities and the U.S. Navy that are presented to the fifth graders of the participating schools. In 2020, that educational innovation was extended to the "virtual" classroom through outstanding partnerships with NASA and others.
