NCWM CHAIRMAN’S WELCOME
Dear NCWM Colleagues,
As discussed, the Open Hearings begin on Monday. NCWM Publication 16, which you are holding either physically or electronically, serves as the agenda for the NCWM Annual Meeting. The Standing Committee Mem- bers who, after hearing testimony in the Open Hearings on Monday and Tuesday, will go into their respective Committee Work Sessions to update and refine the status of agenda items. This is why the status of each agenda item depends heavily on what members offer in support, clarification, or opposition. On Tuesday morning we will complete the Open Hearings, followed by the General Session and Awards Ceremony. On Tuesday afternoon, come meet with the Board of Directors to discuss the future of printed NIST handbooks. The NCWM voting session will begin on Wednesday afternoon and continue through Thursday morning if necessary. On Wednesday evening please join us for the ultimate music destination, the world’s one and only Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I hope you have an opportunity to experience some of what Cleveland has to offer during your visit. As always, I personally look forward to finding good things to eat! My sincere thanks to our NCWM members, the NCWM staff, the NCWM Board of Directors, every Standing Committee member, and everyone here who volunteers their time and talent to help make this 109th NCWM Annual Meeting successful. I look forward to visiting with you this week in Cleveland.
Welcome to the 109th NCWM Annual Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio. This is the location of the NCWM Annual Meeting, July 14 through 18, 2024, at the Hotel Cleveland. The newly renovated Hotel Cleveland stands as a bold testament to the city’s spirit, a fusion of Cleveland’s historical depth and present-day charisma. An interesting note, in 1932 from his home in Cleveland, Jerry Siegel, first drafted the story of one of the most iconic superheroes in American comic book history, Superman. You can still see this house among other interesting sights around the area. It is great to have each of you at this meeting, and I encourage you to actively participate during this week. If you are new to the NCWM process, let me give you a brief overview. At the annual meeting the conference takes the work from the Interim meeting, where each item was given a status, and continues the discussion. The Standing Committees will take comments on Voting and Informational Items during the opening hearing from all members. For the Developing and Assigned items, the respective committees will take comments from the developer and from the assigned group under advisement. On Sunday, in addition to the committee agenda reviews, there are several meetings and I encourage you to attend as many as possible. These meetings include but are not limited to the Milk Meter Task Group, Packaging and Labeling Subcommittee, Cannabis Task Group, Fuels and Lubricants Subcommittee, Community for All Legal Metrologists (CALM), Women in Weights and Measures, the newly formed Metrology Subcommittee and Uniform Shipping Law Task Group. Please refer to the schedule of events for all meetings and times. Also, on Sunday evening I hope to see you at the Chairman’s Reception.
Sincerely,
Gene Robertson NCWM Chairman
