The American Heart Association reports individuals with sleep apnea are more likely to suffer a heart attack. What’s more, the American Stroke Association found patients with untreated sleep apnea are three times more likely to suffer from a stroke. Often viewed as an inconvenience, exceptionally loud or erratic snoring can be a symptom of sleep apnea, a condition in which a person literally chokes during their sleep. The American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) defines sleep apnea as “involuntary cessations of breathing that occur while somebody is asleep.” An episode often lasts between 10 seconds and two minutes and happens hundreds of times throughout the
