The remarkable answer to this prayer of the apostles was immediate. On re ceipt of that fervent prayer, they had the power. That power is also ours to day in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the demonstration of the Holy Spirit. “ They were all filled” with the Holy Spirit. This filling is definitely the heritage of every child of God, the birth right of every child of God, the need of every child of God, and the responsibil ity of every child of God. There is no use “ alibiing.” If we are not doing exploits for God, it is because the channels are blocked in our hearts and lives. God is no respecter of persons. He has never played favorites. But the filling of the Holy Spirit came first, then the power. Why are there so many dreadfully dumb Christians? They have nothing to talk about. But when a Spirit-filled Christian is having constant commun ion and fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ, his soul throbs with it. It will be an artesian well in his soul, constantly bubbling up in a glorious testimony. The filling was followed by the speak ing. “ They all began to speak.” So will you. There was also the spontaneous giv ing. We get a thrill out of putting into God’s treasury. It is facing Satan in a personal encounter to give that more folks may hear the gospel and be saved. The Holy Spirit makes generous Chris tians. •If you want an effective testimony, pray for the infilling of the Holy Spirit. You will be able to tell the story of Christ crucified when the Holy Spirit comes in His fullness into your life. He makes our witness victorious and effective. It is all very well to have study courses in soul-winning, to have evan gelistic conferences, conventions, re treats, but it is infinitely better to have the outpoured Spirit upon you and in you. After the apostles prayed, then came the great winning of souls. Let us put God’s formula to work in our lives this year. Let our mouths be filled with the praises of God, let prayer be the ex pression of our days, supplicating, in terceding for others, who know not God. Ask fervently and without let-up for revival in the name of the holy child Jesus. Pray that we may see His power in the conversion of multitudes. Our Lord always had compassion upon the crowds of His day. Covet the hearts and the praises of multitudes living now, that they, too, may give witness of the salvation and resurrection of the Lord Jesus. A P R I L , 1 9 4 9
