May 1, 1949 VOCATIONS OF CHRISTIAN SIGNIFICANCE Eph. 4:1-3, 11, 12; Phil. 3:8-14

Our character and our behavior should both have their origin in heaven. The Lord said, “ Take no thought how or what ye shall speak . . . for it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.” Both the manner and the material must come from God if it is to he effective. No mat ter what our business may be, we are here as ambassadors for Christ, servants of God, lights in a dark world, salt in the midst of corruption, and ministers of Jesus Christ. The doctor, the lawyer, the carpenter, the plumber, if a Chris tian, should be a good testimony for God. Christians Are Lights for Others Matt. 5:14 The world is sitting in darkness. Most people do not know God and do not want to know Him. They sit in the dark with blinded eyes, so there is a double dark ness. God puts His children as lights on ships, airplanes, in coal mines, stores, shops,’ and factories, in' class rooms, in restaurants, on the police force, and in Congress that there they may make known His truth and bring the light of heaven into darkened souls. We Chris tians are His representatives every where we go. Let us shine then as lights. Christians Are Seed for the Harvest Matt. 13:38 Satan’s plants grow profusely in busi ness and educational circles, in false cults, and in every spot where he can plant his seed. The Lord wants His chil dren who are saved by grace and washed in the blood to he wholly devoted to pro-

ducing a crop for Him. He plants the Christian where He sees that he will flourish to the best advantage. It may he behind a desk or a carpenter’s bench, or in a tool room, but wherever it is, God has planted him there to grow for Christ. Christians Are Branches to Bear Fruit For the Master John 15:5 The world does not read the Bible hut the world does see the kind of fruit the Christian bears. The world knows whether we are on the thorn bush or the grape vine. Men judge the value of the plant by the fruit that it bears. The Lord wants us to bear heaven’s fruit for Him and be good advertisements for His truth and His gospel. He plants Chris tians in every position that is lawful in commercial life, in professional circles, in the military world, and elsewhere that they may demonstrate the fruits of righteousness. Christians Are Ambassadors to a Hostile World 2 Cor. 5:20 Someone must carry the message of grace and pardon to those who are ene mies in their minds by wicked works. Someone must be God’s herald of peace in a world of blood, sweat, and tears. That person is the child of God who has been saved by grace, pardoned by love, and enriched with eternal life. The Chris tian is an ambassador to those with whom he associates no matter what their position in life may be. Every vocation ‘is exalted when Christ rules and reigns there.

parents. This situation is difficult to find. In many homes the parents are more interested in bridge than in the Bible. They go more often to the theater than to the church. They give more for com ics than for Christ. God holds the par ents responsible for this condition. Let us return to the family altar. T H E K I N G ' S B U S I N E S S

The expression, “the Christian home,” must be understood to mean a home in which Christ Jesus has saved the father and the mother and has touched the hearts of the children so that they are either saved or are friendly and obedient to the leading and the teaching of the
