The key industries providing employment include information and communication, which comprise almost 13% of jobs, and professional, scientific and technical activities, which comprise about 11.5% of jobs. The region is economically strong with a higher employment rate. Windsor, as part of the Thames Valley, has the highest labour productivity in the UK outside London, at 23% above the national average. Windsor is at the centre of the UK’s transport network, 12 miles west of Heathrow Airport, which operates about 475,000 flights a year serving 80.1 million passengers flying to 203 destinations in 84 countries, making it the busiest airport in Europe. The region is set to benefit from the opening of Crossrail, which will allow passengers from the Thames Valley to catch one train all the way through central London, providing a direct link to a range of destinations, including the West End, the City and Canary Wharf. Excellent transport links, beautiful countryside and the proximity to Heathrow Airport, make Berkshire and especially Windsor with its iconic, historical beauty and country parks, a very desirable place to set up business, relocate or find employment.
