With the new Smartfold folder-gluer, Roberts says he was looking for added efficiency and versatility. The gluer can run a wide range of sub- strates for his customers, including E- and F-flute corrugated and 24 pt cartonboard. It has 20 glue guns from W. H. Leary. “If somebody has a six- pack beverage carrier or six-corner box with an inner cell, this gluer with this type of glue head capacity gives me an advantage,” he said. In addition to the Smartfold, EPF also has a Bobst Media folder-gluer, three Bobst BMA foil stamping machines and a 1060 Masterwork platen diecutter as well as conventional coaters, stitchers and the new MGI machine. The Ultra X2S is an extended version folder-glu- er with two crash lock bottom sections and three back folding axes. It has motorized carriers for full and sec- tional job/memory recall that includes recovery of machine operational settings for fast and repeatable changeovers with minimal startup waste. It is powered with a low con- sumption multiple servo drive system for precise carton compression section shingle control through inching, pro- duction, acceleration and deceleration speed changes, as well as high-speed precision servo back folding systems which allows minimal carton separation. The electronics is based on non-proprietary technology for easy machine
servicing and with remote diagnostics capabilities.
