Neighbourhood wants chip stand to move Over 30 residents want Grampa Bill’s chip stand to relocate, citing smells, noise, waste and several different critters being attracted by the food, as their main concerns. The residents presented a petition to city council, urging that the chip stand, located in the parking lot of the Leduc shop- ping mall, be moved elsewhere. The petitioners all residewithin Paul, On- tario, Eleventh East and Roy streets. Grampa Bill’s chip stand attracted at- tention earlier this year, when it was shut down by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit for non compliance.

Local poet releases fourth collection Local poet Jesse Patrick Ferguson released his fourth full-length poetry collection, Mr. Sapiens, this October, with national publisher Wolsak and Wynn (Hamilton). Ferguson has lived on the East Coast for the past several years, but just recently moved back to Cornwall. This fourth poetry collection gathers the best of his work from the past years, much of which has already been published in leading magazines in 12 coun- tries. The book includes a diverse group of themes and subject matter, from concerns over environmental destruction to the power of art and music, the joys of parenthood and romantic love. Running throughout the collection is an awareness of the divided nature of modern life—how people have primal urges that culture often forces us to hide—hence the title, Mr. Sapiens, which combines our species’ scientific name with the cultural title, “Mr.” Ferguson launched his collection with a reading in Toronto early in October, and more launches are planned for Ottawa, Hamilton and Kingston.
