bringing disobedience to the com­ mandments of the Lord. josiah There is a great danger which we face anytime we start trying to tell God how to run His affairs. For this study, consider II Chronicles 35:20- 27 and the events surrounding the life of Josiah. The rule of this king is recorded in II Chronicles 34:1 through the 35th chapter. While his father, Amon, had been a very wicked man, Josiah was a good king. His father had been slain by his own people. This young man, therefore, began to reign ov­ er Judah when he was a lad of eight. It was during a time of spiritual apostasy and moral depravity. Manasseh, Josiah's grandfather, had brought terrible abominations into the worship of the people. He built altars to false gods such as Baal and taught the people to worship the sun, moon and stars. Intro­ duced to their sinful practices were carved idols, images, sorcery, witch­ craft and even the sacrifice of chil­ dren. At the top of the queen's stair­ way in London's Windsor Castle is a statue of King Edward VI. The septre in his right hand points to a passage in the Bible designed to instruct his own son to reign as the king of England in a godly man­ ner. Unfortunately, Josiah never had such teaching. II Chronicles 34:1-7 tells us about a spiritual revival and reformation breaking out in Judah. When Jo­ siah reached 16 he began to seek after the Lord. No man, rich or poor, is turned back as a result of such a God-honoring quest. As a result the young king's life was transformed. He walked straight morally and spiritually. This was
