The Educator Track is intended for scholars and/or physicians who spend a significant part of their professional activities in education and whose scholarship is focused in these areas, rather than in basic investigation or clinical service. Educators are an integral part of a department's teaching programs. They will participate in the development, administration and operation of these programs, and dedicate themselves to the educational mission of their department and/or the College of Medicine at one or more levels (undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate). The educator track will be very teaching intensive with expectations that likely include several courses be assigned per term. Individuals who only precept students and other trainees in the course of their clinical or research duties, or who deliver an occasional lecture or teaching conference, do not meet the level of commitment to teaching expected in this track. Examples of activities that are commensurate with the standards of teaching for this track may include the following: Multiple graduate of undergraduate course taught each term. Year I/II or Year III/IV Director, Clinical Skills or Physician and Society Director, block director or important role in a block; clerkship director; residency or fellow program director or other important role in a residency/fellowship/training program, innovation and development of educational programs, participation in training grant applications, active role on a curriculum committee or other education-related committees; excellent contributions to the education of medical students, undergraduate students, graduate students, residents, clinical and/or research fellows, or to continuing medical education; important contributions to changes in educational policy at the local or national level; and leadership of an educational conference. As faculty progress through the ranks in this track, it is anticipated that they will develop a distinguished record in several of these areas and that these accomplishments will be documented in an educational portfolio. In any ARPT recommendation, collegiality with students, residents, and peers is deemed to be an important quality. CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT, REAPPOINTMENT OR PROMOTION Appointments in the Educator Track are expected to possess doctoral degrees and to have completed their academic training.
