buttered plates, put a few drops of vanilla on the candy, and pull when cool enough.” That sounds good, doesn’t it? Would you like to have some? Do you think it is necessary to follow the recipe exactly? We might be able to leave out the sugar or the vinegar, “No, it would not be good if you did,” you say. You are right. If you want good candy, you must, follow the recipe exactly. The Bible is God’s Recipe Book for sal vation. Many people do not receive sal vation, because they do not follow God’s recipe. Christ tells us that He came to call sinners to repentance. He said, “Ex cept ye repent, ye shall all likewise per ish.” This is the first thing people need to do to receive salvation. The next is to believe on Christ as the One who died for our sins. The Philippian jailer was told, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” The third thing to be done is to receive Him. “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.” Let us again notice the things which are mentioned in God’s recipe for salvation—- repent, believe, receive, and confess. If we want God to give us salvation from sin, we must follow His recipe.

come to forgive sin and not just to cure the body, so instead of saying to the sick man, “Arise, and walk,” He said, “Thy sins be forgiven thee.” Then some of the people, who did not wish to believe that Jesus was God, said to themselves, “This man blasphemeth! He must think that He is God, for only God can forgive sin.” Jesus knew what they were saying among themselves, so He turned to them and said that they must know “that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sin.” Then He took the sick man by the hand and he got up and walked—this man who had not been able to walk these many years was cured, and Jesus who had said, “Thy sins be forgiven thee,” had cured him. Surely Jesus was God. Golden T ext Illustration When the Duke of Kent, father of Queen Victoria, lay dying, his physician sought to soothe his mind by referring to the distinguished position in which Provi dence had placed him. “But remember, if I am to be saved, it is not as a prince, but as a sinner,” was the duke’s quick and correct reply. Our Lord came not “to . . . the righteous, but sinners.”— S elected . Object Lesson M other ’ s R ecipe B ook Object: A cookbook. Lesson : Do you boys and girls like taffy candy ?
