A 3 km del centro de Ovalle y alejado de la trama urbana se erige este casino-resort, fundando una ciudadela en medio del Valle del Limarí. Así como los antiguos habitantes se asentaban al interior de las cárcavas, verdaderas grietas que seccionan la meseta central del valle, la intervención pretende constituir una nueva cárcava sobre el lugar. Esta grieta busca dar refugio a través de sus recovecos, los cuales generan una secuencia de espacios interiores y exteriores que se esconden del tráfico exterior y las vías, favoreciendo la calma y el descanso. About 3 kms from the city center, away from the urban grid, stands the Casino and Hotel Ovalle, founding a citadel in the middle of the valley of the Limarí. As well as the ancient inhabitants of the valley settled to the interior of the gullies; real cracks that striped the central plateau of the valley, this intervention aims to constitute a new gully on this new site. This crack seeks to give refuge through its nooks, which generate a sequence of indoor and outdoor spaces that are hidden from the outside traffic and tracks, favoring the calm and rest.

Una gran pirca de piedra perimetral delimita el espacio habitable de esta nueva ciudadela. Sobre ella descansan los volúmenes que albergan los distintos componentes del programa formando una planta cuadrada, la cual se corta en sentido diagonal, generando así la grieta central de convergencia. Pareciera como si a este volumen monolítico y hermético lo hubiesen esculpido de adentro
hacia afuera, haciéndose lugar a través del material pétreo, generando así una fisura y dejando sin esculpir el perímetro. Exceptuando el hotel, todos los demás edificios son bastante herméticos, con muros enchapados en piedra del lugar dando un sentido vernacular propio del clima de la región y haciendo alusión a las paredes rocosas de las cárcavas del Valle del Limarí. A large perimeter stone wall delimits the living space of this new citadel. On it lie the volumes that contain the various components of the architectural program forming a square floor plan, which cuts through diagonally, forming the central crack of convergence. Making it seem as if this monolithic and hermetic volume was carved from the inside toward the outside, taking place through the stone materials, generating a crack and leaving the perimeter uncarved. Except from the hotel, all other buildings are quite airtight, with walls veneered in stone found in the surroundings, giving a vernacular sense, and referring to the rocky walls of the gullies of the valley of the Limarí.
