Situado a metros del cerro-isla Santa Lucía, el Hotel Magnolia ocupa una antigua casa de 1929 diseñada por el arquitecto Eduardo Costabal Zegers. El edificio acaba de ser restaurado, adaptado y ampliado para las nuevas funciones solicitadas: un hotel de 42 habitaciones, lo que hizo necesario agregar un volumen de tres niveles sobre el último piso original, el tercero, sin alterar el estilo de los años 20. La fachada del volumen agregado es una resonancia de la antigua fachada, que se plasmó en vidrio serigrafiado con la imagen invertida. Este original elemento, que define la identidad del edificio, se enciende durante la noche. La línea de luz surge del encuentro de los dos volúmenes, y a contraluz se vislumbra, con luz y sombra, la nueva fachada, casi fundida con el cielo. Por otra parte, todos los relieves, molduras y esculturas llevan también una línea y un mini proyector de led que destaca la tridimensionalidad del elemento. Located barely meters away from the St. Lucia island-hill, Hotel Magnolia occupies an old 1929 manor designed by architect Eduardo Costabal Zegers. The building has recently been restored, refurbished and expanded to host the new required features: a hotel with 42 rooms, which made necessary the addition of a three level volume over the original top third floor, without altering the 20s style. The façade of the added volume is a resonance of the old façade, reflected in the silk-screened glass printed with the inverted image. This original element is lit at night, defining the identity of the building. The line of light emerges in the confluence of the two volumes, and in backlight you can glimpse, in light and shadow, the new façade, almost fused with the sky. Moreover, all reliefs, moldings and sculptures also feature a line and a mini LED projector that enhances the three-dimensional condition of the element.
