NUEVO MAM DE SAO PAULO, PROYECTO New Sao Paulo MAM, project
In 2013, the Museum of Modern Art in Sao Paulo invited a group of architects to experiment with the development of proposals for a new headquarters. With the Ibirapuera Park as the site, the project by Spbr includes not only the contextual condition - a cultural legacy per se - but also ideas provided by Lina Bo Bardi in the 80s. Thus, it reinterprets the “canopy” as a feature in the form of four elevated pavilions -four identical “prisms” supported by columns- that form a transparent square, in an experimental gesture without disturbing the landscape of Burle Marx and the Niemeyer buildings, which are defined as “permanent collections”.
En 2013, el Museo de Arte Moderno de São Paulo invitó a un grupo de arquitectos al ejercicio de desarrollar propuestas para una nueva sede. Con el Parque Ibirapuera como emplazamiento, el proyecto de SPBR recoge no solo la condición del contexto -un legado cultural per se -, también ideas aportadas por Lina Bo Bardi en los 80. Así, reinterpreta la “marquesina” como elemento característico en la forma de cuatro pabellones elevados -cuatro “prismas” idénticos sostenidos por pilares- que conforman un cuadrado transparente, en un gesto por asumir sin interferir el paisaje de Burle Marx y las edificaciones de Niemeyer, las cuales se definen como “colecciones permanentes”.
EN BRASIL TENEMOS UN CLIMA QUE PERMITE DISEÑAR EDIFICIOS Y VIVIENDAS ABIERTOS, SIN PUERTAS NI VENTANAS, COMO VIVÍAN LOS INDÍGENAS. SIN EMBARGO, COMO ARQUITECTOS TRABAJAMOS CON UN LENGUAJE QUE SE FORJÓ EN LOS PAÍSES EUROPEOS Y QUE LLEGÓ A TRAVÉS DE LOS PORTUGUESES, ITALIANOS Y ESPAÑOLES. ES INTERESANTE PORQUE UN PARADIGMA FUNDANTE DE LA ARQUITECTURA EUROPEA ES LA IDEA DE ABRIGO, DE SEPARAR LO DE AFUERA DE LO DE ADENTRO CON ESTOS ELEMENTOS, INNECESARIOS PARA NOSOTROS. IN BRAZIL WE HAVE A CLIMATE IN WHICH IT IS POSSIBLE TO DESIGN OPEN BUILDINGS AND HOUSES WITHOUT DOORS OR WINDOWS, AS THE NATIVE PEOPLE LIVED. HOWEVER, AS ARCHITECTS WE WORK WITH A LANGUAGE THAT WAS FORGED IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND THAT CAME OVER WITH THE PORTUGUESE, THE ITALIANS AND THE SPANISH. IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE A FOUNDING PARADIGM OF EUROPEAN ARCHITECTURE IS THE IDEA OF SHELTER, TO SEPARATE THE OUTSIDE FROM THE INSIDE WITH THESE ELEMENTS THAT ARE UNNECESSARY FOR US.
