El conjunto fue pensado para acoger a quienes se ven obligados a habitar en situaciones complejas, hacinados, con poca seguridad y ninguna privacidad, con baños y servicios compartidos por numerosas personas en instalaciones precarias, con los riesgos que ello conlleva. El proyecto se apropió de containers en desuso de una manera novedosa, reutilizándolos como vivienda social y otorgando una base sólida y aislada a muy bajo costo. Por medio de la distribución espacial en el conjunto y la optimización del espacio interior disponible, se lograron los objetivos de seguridad y privacidad para los residentes, atributos determinantes en su decisión de vivir ahí. En un terreno de 390 m², los contenedores se organizan en tres hileras en altura, de nueve unidades cada una, con una estructura metálica adosada como circulación, la cual permite la entrada de luz natural en el angosto terreno. El conjunto remata en un patio común, una administración y una lavandería. Cada container es una unidad de arriendo que incluye un dormitorio, cocina-comedor y baño.
The compound was designed to accommodate those who are forced to live in complicated, overcrowded situations, with little security and no privacy, with bathrooms and services shared by many people in precarious facilities, with all the risks this entails. The project took ownership of unused containers in an original way, reusing them as social housing and providing a solid and insulated unit at a very low cost. Safety and privacy for the residents were goals achieved by means of the spatial distribution in the complex and the optimization of the available interior space, which were determining attributes in the user’s decision to relocate. On a 390 sqm plot, the containers are organized in three stacked rows of nine units each with a metallic structure attached as circulation, allowing the entrance of natural light to the narrow plot. The complex ends in a common patio, an administration and a laundry. Each container is a rental unit that includes a bedroom, kitchen and a bathroom.
