Diseño Design: 2006-2010 Construcción Construction: 2012-2016 La idea de Mecanoo fue diseñar una estación que diera identidad al encuentro con la ciudad. Tanto la estación como el ayuntamiento y oficinas municipales van justo encima del nuevo túnel ferroviario que reemplazó al viaducto que en 1965 dividió la ciudad en dos. Un gran techo abovedado de 7.700 m² conecta la estación con los espacios municipales; contiene un imponente mapa de Delft y sus alrededores hacia 1877. La percepción de esta imagen cambia a medida que los usuarios avanzan a través del edificio, en una impresionante bienvenida. La piel de vidrio del edificio está diseñada para reflejar el cielo holandés. Los paneles de vidrio fundido aluden a un diseño de ventana tradicional en la zona, el cual emula las distintivas ventanas del barrio antiguo. El declive de la línea de techo hacia las esquinas proporciona una transición gradual hacia la escala del centro de la ciudad y del cercano barrio de Wester. Las aberturas en el volumen vidriado del edificio municipal forman un patrón de callejones y patios, inspirados en la intrincada estructura de Delft. Mecanoo’s idea was to design a station that gave an identity to the encounter with the city. Both the station, and the city hall and municipal offices are directly above the new railway tunnel that replaced the viaduct dividing the city in two since 1965. A large vaulted ceiling of 7,700 sqm connects the station with the municipal spaces. It contains an imposing 1877 map of Delft and its surroundings. The perception of this image changes as pedestrians walk through the building in an impressive welcoming gesture. The glass skin of the building is designed to reflect the Dutch sky. The molten glass panels allude to a traditional window design in the area which emulates the distinctive windows of the old quarter. The slope of the roofline towards the corners provides a gradual transition to the scale of the city center and the nearby Wester neighborhood. The openings in the glazed volume of the municipal building form a pattern of alleys and courtyards, inspired by the intricate structure of Delft.
