Dado el tamaño del proyecto se plantean problemáticas a distintas escalas, desde la geográfica y la urbana a la propiamente funcional del edificio. En todas ellas (envolvente urbana, recinto portuario y edificio TIP), se busca construir una relación alternada y continua entre el entorno natural y el construido, donde el nuevo edificio del TIP asume además un rol particular en la relación con su entorno, ya sea entendido como hito, umbral o instrumento de observación. La intervención integra el recinto portuario a la trama urbana, cuidando y resguardando los atributos espaciales de la ciudad y su relación con la geografía circundante. Se busca potenciar la relación perpendicular desde el interior de la cuadrícula fundacional con la costa del Estrecho de Magallanes y las montañas circundantes, posibilitada por la sucesión ritmada de los vacíos de las calles en dirección norte-sur, los que se abren en vistas hacia el mar o la cordillera. Given the size of the project, problems arise at different scales, from the geographical and urban to the functional scale of the building. In all of them (urban setting, port enclosure and IPT Building), we seek to build an alternating and continuous relationship between the natural and built environment, where the new IPT building also takes on a particular role in the relationship with its environment, either understood as a landmark, threshold or instrument of observation. The intervention integrates the port area into the urban fabric, taking care of and safeguarding the spatial attributes of the city and its relationship with the surrounding geography. It seeks to strengthen the perpendicular relationship from the interior of the foundational grid to the coast of the Strait of Magellan and the surrounding mountains, made possible by the rhythmic succession of the voids of the north-south streets, which open the view towards the sea or the mountain range.
