On behalf of all of us at Crooked Tree Arts Center, welcome to the eighth annual Paint Grand Traverse—a weeklong celebration of art, nature, and community in the beautiful Grand Traverse region. Plein air painting, from the French en plein air (“in the open air”), invites artists to leave the studio behind and work outdoors, capturing the changing light and atmosphere of a scene in real time. It’s a tradition rooted in history and alive with spontaneity, joy, and connection to place. This June, we’re thrilled to welcome 33 outstanding artists from across the country who will paint throughout the region—from Sleeping Bear Dunes to downtown Traverse City, orchards to shorelines—bringing to life the landscapes we all love. Over the course of the week, they’ll create more than 250 original works of art, and the public is invited to experience it all through special events, exhibitions, and family-friendly activities. Thanks to the passion of our community—our volunteers, supporters, collectors, and guests—Paint Grand Traverse has grown into one of the nation’s premier plein air festivals. We’re so excited to share this experience with you. See you out in the field (or on the street... or at the beach)!
Sincerely, Kristi Wodek Vice President
