Liz Bohorquez Gaita TP in Colombia
My name is Liz Bohorquez Gaitan, and I am the mother of Lorenzo Bohorquez Gaitan. With these words, you already have an important piece of my story. When I found out I was expecting Lorenzo, my life changed completely. Today, he is my drive and my reason for being. This journey of being a single mother has taught me, above all, the importance of resilience. I have learned to value every challenge and every lesson that has allowed me to find the strength to move forward and be a better mom. TP has been an essential part of this process: a place, a family that opened its doors to me, offering support so I could grow professionally without ever stopping being a mom. Every day at TP, I find a support network and a safe space that has allowed me to offer Lorenzo a better life. Thanks to this support, I can be stronger and more confident as I move forward. On tough days, when things don’t go as expected or when I feel emo- tionally drained, Lorenzo is always there to give me the strength I need. I remember a moment I will never forget: when Lorenzo was three and a half years old, all the children at his daycare made a craft for their dads on Father’s Day. Although the teachers knew my story, one teacher who didn’t approach Lorenzo said, “Let’s make a gift for your dad.” With the purity and wisdom only a child can have, Lorenzo replied, “Miss, I don’t have a dad. My mom is both my dad and my mom. I’m making the gift for my mom.” At that moment, I understood that everything I had worked on with him, every effort, every sacrifice, was paying off. I hugged myself, feeling deeply grateful for the strong and resilient person I was raising. As a single mom, my greatest goal is to raise my son to be a respect- ful, loving man, free of stereotypes and full of empathy. When his time comes, I want him to be the father he never had, but one that I am convinced he has never lacked because I am everything he needs.
My purpose is to be his guide, his source of inspiration, and provide him with the tools to grow into a good man. Most importantly, I want him to know that he will always find a model of love, strength, and resilience in me.
