Letters to Mothers

How my mum empowered my journey Dear Mum,

Mum, in the whirlwind of life, it’s easy to overlook the moments where we should stop and say “thank you” or “I love you” to those who matter the most. But today, I need you to know: the person I am and everything I’ve become is because of you. You’ve been my biggest supporter, my constant encourager, even when I’ve been filled with doubt or fear. I wasn’t the loudest or the smartest in school: a quiet, timid kid who didn’t really fit in. But despite that, you saw something in me. You found time, even while being a full-time mum to both my brother and me, with dad often away, to help me grow. Whether it was sitting down with me for schoolwork or making sure we still had fun family moments, you gave us everything, even when it wasn’t easy. You didn’t have it easy yourself. Being the youngest of eight and raised by a single parent, you worked hard for every bit of what you built. You and dad created a home for us and made sure we never went without, not even a birthday or a holiday. And when I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, you didn’t push me—you simply supported me. You encouraged me to take that placement in Florence, Italy, even though I was terrified. But you knew. You knew that would change the course of my life. And then, when the opportunity came to move to India, you didn’t hesi- tate. I remember your words clearly: “If I were you, I’d grab every oppor- tunity. You only have one life; go live it.” And I did. India, the Philippines, the USA, and now Spain—every step of the way, you’ve been there. My constant cheerleader. You’ve never let me doubt myself, not for a second. While my friends from school chose different paths like marriage and chil - dren, you never made me feel less. You always cared about my journey,

asked about my work and my colleagues, and even remembered the names of my bosses. Mum, I’ve always just wanted to make you proud. And knowing that you carry every business card I’ve ever had in your purse and proudly show- ing them off to your friends means more to me than you’ll ever know. But more than anything, I couldn’t have done any of this without you. When I’ve broken down in tears from the weight of a tough day, it’s been your voice—steady and strong—telling me to get back up, reminding me of my purpose, the lives I’m touching around the world. I love you, Mum. I hope you’re proud of me, because I’m so incredibly proud to be your daughter. Love always, Lou
