A strike of inspiration: a letter to Melinda Cheng Dear Ms. Mel, As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible ways you have shaped my journey, not just as a leader, but as a mentor and a mother figure to our team. And the more I think about it, the more I realize that your leadership is like a perfect game of bowl- ing: precise, strategic, and always knocking down obstacles with grace and determination. In the game of leadership, you are the one who steps up to the lane with confidence, aligning your stance and focus with the bigger picture. Just like a skilled bowler, you assess every challenge carefully, adjusting your approach to ensure the best possible outcome. No matter the weight of the ball—or the pressure of the moment—you show us that success isn’t about force alone but about consistency, patience, and knowing when to make the right moves. You have taught us that not every throw will be a strike, but that doesn’t mean the game is over. A spare can be just as powerful—a second chance to make things right. Through your guidance, you have shown us that setbacks are simply opportunities to adjust our aim, learn from our mistakes, and come back even stronger. What sets you apart as a leader is your ability to set the pins back up when we feel knocked down. You never let us stay in the gutter for too long. Instead, you encourage us to pick up the ball, recalibrate, and keep going. Your belief in us acts like the perfect lane oil, smoothing the way, reducing friction, and helping us roll forward toward success. But beyond the game itself, you remind us that bowling—just like leadership—is about teamwork. You celebrate every strike, support us through every spare, and remind us that even a split isn’t the end of the world. You foster an environment where no one bowls alone, where
every frame is an opportunity to lift each other up, and where the real victory is in the growth and strength we build together. On this special day, I want to thank you for being the kind of leader who turns every challenge into an opportunity, every failure into a lesson, and every success into a shared celebration. Because of you, I approach lead- ership with more strategy, more resilience, and more heart. So here’s to you, Ms. Mel—our champion, our guide, and the one who always keeps us rolling toward greatness. May your own journey be filled with nothing but strikes and well-earned victories, because you truly deserve them.
