Fees/Permits: FMCSA HM Safety Permit or another document showing the GHM Safety Permit number must be carried in all motor vehicles transporting highway route controlled quantities of radioactive material. Inspections and routing: PA 181 of 1963 and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations require a written route plan for shipments by highway of radioactive material for which hazardous materials placards are required and further requires that highway route controlled quantities of radioactive material shipped by highway follow state designated preferred routes and obtain a point of origin CVSA Level VI inspection as part of the HM safety Permit Process.
