Dallisgrass Control Program CONTROL GUIDE North Texas | Season-Long Control and Suppression Strategy for Bermudagrass
Recommended Annual Program
Timing
Application Recommended Treatment
Key Notes
Late November – Mid-December
Spot treat glyphosate (1.5 – 2% solution) + Harrell’s Herbicide Activator (2 gallons/100 gallons spray solution).
Dallisgrass stays green 2–3 weeks after bermudagrass goes dormant. Apply before stoppage of dallisgrass active growth. Good opportunity for mature clump removal with minimal bermudagrass risk. Dallisgrass is fully dormant. Herbicides require active growth to be effective. Use this time to scout and map problem areas for spring treatment. Apply in a carrier volume of 1-2 gallons per 1000 sq. ft. followed by 0.25 inch of irrigation. Dimension will not control plants that are established at the time of application. Dallisgrass breaks dormancy 2-3 weeks before bermudagrass. Spot treat greening dallisgrass clumps before bermudagrass breaks dormancy. Good opportunity for mature clump removal with minimal bermudagrass risk. Improve bermudagrass density through nitrogen fertility and consistent mowing. Apply in a carrier volume of 1-2 gallons per 1000 sq. ft. followed by 0.25 inch of irrigation. Dimension will not control plants that are established at the time of application.

Spot treat glyphosate (1.5 – 2% solution) + Harrell’s Herbicide Activator (2 gallons per 100 gallons spray solution). Spot Treat Tribute Total (33 grams per gallon) + ammonium sulfate (25 grams per gallon) + Harell’s Methylated Seed Oil (0.5% v/v).
June - July
Selective Control
Spray thoroughly to wet all undesirable plants.
Continued Suppression
June - July
Apply 7 days after MSMA application. Spray undesirable plants to wet.
July – August Selective Control
Spray thoroughly to wet all undesirable plants.
Continued Suppression
July - August
Apply 7 days after MSMA application. Spray undesirable plants to wet.
Nonselective Cleanup
Spot treatment minimizes bermudagrass injury while aggressively removing mature plants. Fall applications improve active ingredient movement into crowns and rhizomes for long-term suppression. Begin scouting for late-season dormant glyphosate targets.

Key Best Practices
Sequential applications: Sequential postemergence herbicide applications are required for complete dallisgrass control. Adjuvant: Always include label recommended adjuvants to improve active ingredient absorption and prevent carrier water antagonism. Rotate active ingredients: Alternate herbicide applications among different modes of action to minimize selection pressure and delay the development of herbicide resistance.
Target actively growing plants: Dallisgrass must be actively growing for herbicides to work effectively. Herbicide applications have proven to be most effective when applied prior to Dallisgrass entering winter dormancy. Cultural competition: Maintain aggressive bermudagrass growth through proper fertility, consistent mowing, and drainage management.
Always read and follow label instructions. All products may not be registered for use in all states.
