Proaudio Sound Press Magazine Exclusive Interview with Thandi Draai, Renowned DJ and Producer

I n celebration of Women's Month this August, Proaudio Sound Press (PSP) Magazine sat down with the exceptional Thandi Draai, a distinguished DJ and producer hailing from South Africa. Thandi shares her fascinating journey in the music industry, her unique approach to Afro Tech, and the challenges and triumphs she's encountered as a female DJ.

PSP: As a resident DJ in Johannesburg, how would you describe the local music scene? What makes it unique compared to other cities? THANDI: Johannesburg's music scene is as vibrant and diverse as any other city in South Africa. We have a plethora of different cultures and music options here. My favorite space is within the Afrotech community. Afrotech parties are simply magical — warm and welcoming, filled with love, good music, and positive vibrations. It's more like a spiritual experience than just a party. You have to attend an Afrotech party to truly feel every moment of it! PSP : You have been representing South Africa abroad as a DJ playing Afro Tech music. How do you incorporate the essence of your country into your sets and performances?

PSP: Can you tell us about your journey as a DJ? How did you get

started, and what inspired you to pursue a career in music?

THANDI: O.M.G, where do I start? I've been fascinated with music since a very young age, realizing its powerful, healing, and magical nature. From that moment, I knew I wanted to create, play, and sing on music. With a lot of practice and patience, I am here, doing what I love — still learning, connecting, and creating magical moments through the way I relate to and express music.
