Thomas Miller Claims Management

Insurance and legal specialists repeat Queen’s Award success for 10th birthday. Just three years after rst winning a Queen’s Award, Northumberland-based Thomas Miller Claims Management (TMCM) is celebrating again, scooping a secondQueen’s Award in the International Trade category as the companymarks its 10th birthday. Having received the Award in 2014 for strong international growth, TMCM increased overseas earnings by over 60% in three years, posting buoyant results despite investing to diversify and expand its oce network. TMCMwas created in 2007 tomake the global insurance and riskmanagement expertise of the Thomas Miller group available to a newaudience. “Exporting services to global markets has always been at the heart of what Thomas Miller does,” says CEO, Peter Jackson. “Markets are shifting and decentralising and the landscape is changing - TMCM will evolve alongwith it, as we always have.” The company’s success from its Prestwick Park base is an echo of its origins in the North-East. “Thomas Miller himself was a Newcastle ship owner before he headed South in 1885 to growhis fortune in London,” explains Director, Patrick Bond. “TMCM is part of the

group’s recent history, but we’re growing and creating jobs in the North-East, where it all started.” Building on the success of its claims adjusting operation, TMCM has invested in the creation of a transport, logistics and insurance law rm, TM Law, which applies the same innovative and cost-eective approach to legal services. TM Law has expanded steadily through the acquisition of a specialist rm in Plymouth, and both TMCM and TM Law now serve the Asia-Pacic region fromoces in Sydney. Evolving from its core business of marine and logistics claims handling, TMCM now handles large caseloads for commercial insurers, particularly in the public and employer liability sectors, where its

insurance heritage and low overheads make it a natural choice in cost-conscious markets. We will keep listening to our clients, identifying where existing providers are insucient,” says Director, Stephen Hunt. “Once we’ve done that, we have to trust our instincts, and nd ways to do it better. “Being in Newcastle and Plymouthmeans we have access to great talent pools, but without the overheads of London, so we can provide top quality with extremely ecient pricing. Withmost industries facing huge cost pressures, those are key messages.” From a teamof three a decade ago, TMCM now has over 50 employees with a variety of skills and expertise, more than half of them in the North-East. Stephen Mooney, who has been with the rm since its early days and was made a Director in 2016, reects warmly on the local success story. “I’ve been in the marine business in the North-East for 20 years, andmuch of the story has been about decline. TMCM has brought revenue and jobs back into the region- when we celebrate our 10th birthday later this year, I think that’s the thing we’ll be most proud of.” Mr Jackson has already been congratulated by Her Majesty once, but is determined not to let the second time be the last. “We’re into a new phase of eort and opportunities. We have taken the same approach we took at the start and we expect to see the same results – and I don’t think many would bet against us.” THOMAS MILLER CLAIMS MANAGEMENT A3 Grainger, Prestwick Park, NorthumberlandNE20 9SJ Tel: +44 (0)1661822904 • www.thomasmillerclaims.com enquiries@thomasmillerclaims.com
