A vehicle that changes lives The Coachbuilt Independence vehicle provides the perfect solution to this problem being a new genre of utility vehicle that sits between a wheelchair-accessible car and an ambulance, allowing any wheelchair user to travel with usable healthcare equipment in the vehicle. The size and layout of the vehicle depends on the aspirations of the individual and their care team and healthcare equipment is based on an
Each wheelchair user has a unique set of needs and while at home they have all their access, transfer and health care equipment designed and tted to meet their exact requirements However, once they leave the sanctuary of their own homes, wheelchair users are reliant on public disabled facilities which are, by necessity, “one size ts all”. They therefore do not cater for individual needs – especially more dependent wheelchair users – who may nd a situation either too dicult or uncertain for them to condently travel any distance from home.
individual’s dependency levels. Each design oers an extensive range of options including wet rooms, hoists, lifts, proling beds, height adjustable beds, specialist seating driver controls, shower tables, and so on. The Coachbuilt Independence vehicle empowers the individual wheelchair user to travel to work or visit friends, attend events, enjoy holidays, wherever the road may lead, it oers real freedom and social inclusion. Importantly the use of such a vehicle also positively impacts on the individual’s immediate family and care team who can often be trapped by the same lack of mobility, returning the same relative freedom to them signicantly contributing to the physical and mental wellbeing of all concerned. The approbation that the Queen’s award provides will contribute to making Britain a more wheelchair friendly place to work, travel and visit.
