HL PLASTICS, one of the UK’s leading PVCu extrusion companies, is a proud recipient of a 2017 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. The accolade is a strong endorsement of the pioneering designs behind the success of the company’s Liniar brand within the window industry – specically the revolutionary ModLok™ bi-folding door. With a reputation for innovation, quality and customer loyalty, HL Plastics was originally formed in 1974. Its premises today consist of a purpose- built extrusion plant, warehouse and oces in Denby, Derbyshire, together with one of the biggest PVCu mixing plants in Europe. The Liniar brand The company has enjoyed substantial growth in the UK manufacturing sector since the launch of its Liniar-branded range of PVCu windows, doors, conservatories and outdoor products. The Liniar range consists of three distinctly dierent types of product serving dierent markets: ● Windows, doors, conservatory roofs and building supplies for fabricators and installers ● Decking and fencing for holiday parks, gardeners and landscapers ● Plastic piling for construction, waterways, retention and ood prevention. Promoting talent With a 500-strong team keeping operations running throughout the year, HL Plastics is one of the area’s largest employers. The company has a history of developing young talent; oering apprenticeships and promoting fromwithin wherever possible.
In-house tooling, maintenance, design and development and technical departments benet from years of expertise, ensuring Liniar products push the boundaries with innovative new launches. The Liniar brand’s current count of 49 patents and registered designs is testament to the continuous development across the whole product range. Former Prime Minister David Cameron visited the factory in 2014 to host a PM Direct session with 150 of the workforce and praised the company for its growth in the manufacturing sector. An exceptional team Entrepreneur Roger Hartshorn commenced his career on the shop oor at HL Plastics in 1977 as an apprentice and is now CEO. Roger, the creator of the Liniar brand, said: “The Queen’s Award is the ultimate tribute for a business – so to win an award, particularly for innovation, is a massive honour.
