The Anglesey Sea Salt Company

In 1997, we left a saucepan of seawater to boil on the Aga in our family kitchen and as the salt crystals started to form, we knew we’d struck culinary gold. In 1999, we started supplying Halen Môn Sea Salt to Swains, our local butchers on the Isle of Anglesey. Today, our sea salt is enjoyed around the world by chefs, food lovers and even Barack Obama. Our gem-like crystals were served at the London 2012 Olympics and political summits and are a vital ingredient in Green & Blacks chocolate and Piper’s Crisps. Along with the best delicatessens in the UK, we also supply Marks and Spencer, Waitrose and Harvey Nichols. Our sea salt can be found in more than 22 countries across the globe as well as on the tables of more than a handful of the world’s Top 50 Restaurants. In 2014 we were awarded Protected Designation of Origin status (PDO), alongside the likes of Champagne and Parma Ham. This was a legal confirmation that the way we make our product is unique and special. Our business exists for the good of all who are involved in making, buying and eating our sea salt. Our team is committed to producing our products in a sustainable way, and growing sustainably too. We started the company because we love the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where we live, so it

makes sense that we are committed to preventing pollution. For now, and as long as we exist, we will monitor this to allow continual improvement. At our core, we believe that small changes add up to much bigger things, and that we can each do something to improve sustainability and business performance. We have a ‘good ideas bonus’ – where employees receive a bonus in exchange for innovative ideas on how business performance can be improved.

Huge congratulations go to all of our team for winning the Queen’s Award for Sustainable Development. We will be proudly flying the Queen’s flag for the next five years.
