WP Annual Report SEP25

Through these efforts, Western Power is building a more climate-resilient energy system for WA – one that is responsive to evolving risks while enabling a just and sustainable transition.

Western Power reviews its material climate risks and opportunities on an annual basis, with progress on mitigation activities regularly monitored to ensure effectiveness. In October 2024, we undertook our first climate- related financial risk disclosure report, the Department of Treasury’s Climate Risk Framework pilot, designed to support public sector entities in assessing and reporting the financial implications of climate change on state infrastructure and public finances. This report marked a significant milestone in embedding climate-related financial risks into corporate governance, strategy, and risk management processes. We are currently preparing our report, scheduled for publication in October 2025, which will further expand on scenario analysis, risk quantification, and the integration of climate considerations into long-term planning and investment decisions. Western Power continues to collaborate across government and research sectors to improve climate science and risk insights. We are an ongoing participant in the WA Climate Science Initiative , which is generating robust climate projection data to inform asset planning and operational resilience across the SWIS.

Key risks and opportunities

Risks

Opportunities

Increasing frequency and severity of weather events and/or bushfires, damaging assets and interrupting supply

• Network transition to improve the network’s climate resilience • Network emergency management plan • Network resiliency modelling for major climate events • AA5 funding into rural reliability trials • Increasingly decarbonised network being leveraged to assist other economic sectors through electrification • Increased transmission asset base through industry electrification • Community engagement and resiliency preparedness • Enhance our distribution system operator capability to orchestrate the electricity system • Operational schemes (e.g. emergency solar management scheme, load shedding)

Changing stakeholder expectations on climate actions

Uncoordinated uptake of distributed renewable energy resources putting power system security and network reliability at risk
